A new packaging law has been in force since the beginning of 2019. It replaces the previously valid Packaging Ordinance and has far-reaching effects on the obligation to report and the settlement of contributions to the dual system. Both distributors and importers who work with packaging are affected.

Short version:

• A new packaging law came into force on Jan. 1, 2019. It replaces the previous Packaging Ordinance.
• Since this date, manufacturers, importers and distributors have been obliged to register their consumption of packaging material at a further, central location.
• The new LUCID reporting point will operate in parallel with existing reporting systems and affected companies must continue to report their packaging materials there as well.
• From this point on, a fee is due to the dual system for the consumption of packaging material.
• In this way, unnecessary packaging and in particular repackaging is to be avoided and the environment relieved.
